35 Year Old Man Shot Dead In Attempt To Protect Girlfriend From Thugs

A 35-year- old man was shot dead early Sunday morning, September 11th, after allegedly confronting thugs who had assaulted his girlfriend at Winners Apartments in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Geoffrey Sigei, 34, and his girlfriend, Winfred Kairuthi, 34, are said to have arrived at the apartment around 4:30 a.m. in two separate vehicles when they were confronted by armed robbers.

According to the apartment’s guard, Samuel Wafula, Kairuthi was the first person to enter the gate, followed by the deceased in a Mazda CX5.

“After the vehicles passed through the main gate, three men forced their way inside, ransacking Kairuthi’s vehicle,” the guard told DCI detectives.

“While parking his vehicle, the deceased noticed the thugs confronting Kairuthi and went to her aid, wielding a rungu,” he added.

The armed thugs then opened fire and shot him in the abdomen as they fled the scene, drawing the attention of nearby police officers.

Neighbors who heard the commotion responded to the incident swiftly and rushed Sigei to RFH Hospital in Ruiru, where he, unfortunately, died while being treated for his injuries.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased and his girlfriend had spent the evening at Ashaki Grill in Thome estate and were being followed home by the assailants’ getaway vehicle, a silver Toyota Prado TX.

Thika-based crime scene investigators went to the scene and recovered two spent 9mm cartridges.

Investigations into the early morning murder have since been launched, and detectives are following critical leads to identify the perpetrators.
