Former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched a sharp critique against President William Ruto, accusing him of hypocrisy and double standards in both his international diplomacy and local leadership.

Speaking during a Sunday church service at Jesus Exaltation Church Bethsaida in Kaputie North Ward, Kajiado East Constituency, Gachagua did not hold back in his criticism of the Head of State. He particularly took issue with President Ruto’s recent address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), calling it “hypocritical and inconsistent.”

Gachagua questioned the sincerity of the President’s call for a ceasefire in Sudan, alleging that president Ruto has been linked to enabling the very conflict he publicly condemned.

He went further to label president Ruto’s foreign policy as doublespeak, especially in light of Kenya’s police deployment to Haiti. While Ruto champions peace abroad, Gachagua claimed that his administration has abetted the formation of gangs used to suppress opposition voices at home.

Insensitive Handling of Fallen Officers in Haiti

Gachagua also criticized the President’s recent announcement regarding fallen Kenyan police officers in Haiti, accusing him of insensitivity.

According to Gachagua, the public disclosure of the officers’ names before their families were informed showed a “complete lack of empathy” and disrespect for the sacrifices made by Kenya’s security personnel.

A Rallying Call to the Youth and Middle Class

Turning to matters at home, the former Deputy President urged Kenyan youth to take the upcoming voter registration exercise seriously, noting that their participation is vital in shaping Kenya’s future leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He also challenged the middle class to abandon political apathy and engage more actively in the country’s democratic processes.

Opposition Unity Still Strong

Addressing rumors of disunity within the opposition, Gachagua dismissed any suggestion that the coalition was fragmenting.

He specifically rejected claims that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka might be warming up to government, insisting that both Kalonzo and DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa remain firmly committed to the opposition.

We are united and focused. The opposition stands as one
