Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has once again survived an impeachment attempt after the Senate ruled that the motion brought against him was procedurally defective. In a sitting that drew national attention, 38 senators voted in favour of dismissing the motion, arguing that it failed to meet the required procedural thresholds. This marks the third time that Governor Nyaribo has successfully fended off an attempt to remove him from office.
The Senate’s decision came after the Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations presented its findings, highlighting inconsistencies and procedural gaps in the framing and prosecution of the motion. Lawmakers noted that although counties are free to initiate impeachment proceedings against governors, such efforts must strictly comply with constitutional and legal requirements.
Governor Nyaribo welcomed the Senate’s verdict, saying it reaffirmed the rule of law and protected counties from what he termed as “politically motivated disruptions.” He urged Nyamira leaders to focus on development rather than political battles that slow down service delivery.
The dismissal now offers the governor yet another lease of political stability, although tension remains high within county leadership as divisions among members of the County Assembly continue to widen.
Observers say the repeat impeachment bids underscore ongoing political wrangles in Nyamira, where competing camps have struggled to find common ground on governance and resource allocation. For now, Governor Nyaribo retains his seat, with Senate leaders calling for dialogue and adherence to due process in any future disputes.
