Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has issued a strong call for unity within the party, cautioning that internal wrangles could weaken ODM’s grip on its traditional support bases ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking during a televised interview on Tuesday evening, Wanga stressed that maintaining cohesion within the party is critical, noting that internal conflicts can be as destructive as political competition from rival parties.
Our focus must be on strengthening ODM in our strongholds. Too much internal fighting is dangerous. Friendly fire also kills.
Gladys Wanga The Homa Bay Governor referenced the 2017 General Election as a lesson for the party, recalling how ODM lost key seats, including the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat in Nairobi, during a time when the party was operating under a coalition arrangement.
This is not the first time ODM has been part of a coalition. We lost important seats in 2017. Unity and strength are essential if we want to retain our strongholds
Gladys Wanga Wanga also commended ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga for steering the party through a challenging transition period following the death of his brother, longtime party leader Raila Odinga. She said his leadership brought much-needed direction at a time of uncertainty within the party.
Addressing speculation about her own political future, Wanga said she remains confident but committed to democratic processes within ODM. She stated that she will subject herself to party nominations, just like other aspirants in Homa Bay County. The ODM National Chairperson also acknowledged the contribution of Mama Ida Odinga, praising her for speaking out in defence of the party during the ongoing transition.
