Vickins Bondo’s election as a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for West Kasipul has been declared invalid by the Oyugis Magistrate Court in Homa Bay County.
On August 30, 2022, Peter Okeyo Ongili, an ODM candidate submitted an election petition to contest Bondo’s victory as an Independent candidate highlighting instances of irregularities during election days.
In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate Benard Omwansa stated that the court was unable to determine whether Bondo had been legitimately elected as the MCA and that the election had not been conducted in a free and fair manner.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has therefore been ordered to hold new elections in compliance with law. Bondo was announced the victor having garnered 4041 votes against Ongili of ODM Party who managed to get 3975 votes in the August 9th 2022 General elections.
The Court further stated that 78 ballot papers are not accounted for, even though the counterfoil indicates that they were used during elections.
