Leicester beats Liverpool 2-0 in EFL Cup

Liverpool’s poor form continues after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester city in the third round of the EC cup last night. In Spain, Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to a 6-1 victory to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Liverpool came in to this game looking to end their poor run of form since the international break.

The Red’s looked threatening in the first half as Phillipe Coutinho came close on a couple of occasions but couldn’t bear fruit.

Liverpool’s wasted chances were punished a little after the hour mark when Shinji Okazaki latched on to Vicente Ibarra’s layoff to give Leicester the opener.

Islam Slimani’s superb strike ended any hopes for a Liverpool comeback, as it sealed Leicester’s win with just a little over 10 minutes remaining.

In Spain, Barcelona continue their hundred percent record as they beat Eibar by a whopping 6 goals to one to extend their gap at the top of the table to 5 points.
Lionel Messi and new signing Paulinho put the home side 2 goals ahead going into the break.

Denis Suarez extended the lead for Barcelona just after the break, before Lionel Messi scored three more goals as Barcelona ran rampant.

The Catalans are now 7 points clear of league rivals and defending champions Real Madrid, who will be facing Real Betis tonight.
