IEBC quizzed over polls funding and expenditure limits

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chair Isaack Hassan has insisted that the commissioners are ready to exit office once the talks on their send off package have been sealed. Appearing before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts on Monday the IEBC chair was put to task to explain the criteria used to determine the campaign funding ceilings for political seats to which he said the regulations would become operational upon parliamentary approval.

The electoral body had in August gazetted the campaign funding and expenditure limits that various seats are required not to exceed.
The ceilings were however criticized by many saying they were too high and could encourage electoral malpractices.
The electoral body chair has also ruled out the possibility of changing the election dates saying such alterations would require a referendum.

On Saturday the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi put the blame on the delay of the implementation of the report to the national treasury and the salaries and remuneration commission further saying no law warrants the commissioners exit and that further delay will only cripple the gentleman’s agreement on their exit.
