Kenya marking 54 years of self rule since it became a republic

Kenya is marking its 54th Jamhuri day today. The celebrations are took place at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi. It is a day that commemorates the establishment of Kenya as a republic in 1964.

Just as the government promised, all gates at the Moi international sports center, Kasarani, were opened from 7 am this morning with Kenyans trooping in the stadium to celebrate 54 years since the country attained independence from Britain.

Just like all state functions, the event was graced by several dignitaries. Traditional and cultural dancers, musicians and poets also who entertained everyone who attended the function.

There was also the president’s guard of honor that was hosted by the Kenya Defense Forces that led other armed and disciplined forces commands in a march-past, as well as pull off the fly-past.

The Kenya Air Force command from Moi air base, Nairobi also conducted a military parade and the ceremonial trooping of the color for the event. It is a day that commemorates the establishment of Kenya as a republic in 1964.This is the first public holiday to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta since he started to serve his second term as president of Kenya.
