Kenya to face Rwanda in CECAFA opener

The 2017 CECAFA senior challenge cup will be opened by an entertaining clash pitting hosts Harambee Stars against Rwanda in the second match of day one on 3rd of December at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
The tournament that returns after a two-year absence was initially scheduled to kick-off November 25th but will now start December 3rd to run until December 17th when the finals will be held.

Harambee Stars will be seeking to reclaim the CECAFA tittle that they last won in 2013 at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium after beating Sudan 2-0 in a match that Allan Wanga scored a brace to hand Kenya a sixth title.

This year the competition will be comprised of 10 teams as opposed to the traditional 12 teams after 2013 finalists Sudan and Somali opted out to see the tournament head straight to semi-finals after the group stage.

The tournament has been divided in two groups of five teams each with the top two sides in each of the groups progressing to the semis.

Kenya who are pooled in group A will play Libya, Zanzibar and Tanzania on December 5th, 9th and 11th respectively.

Defending champions Uganda headline Pool B alongside guests Zimbabwe, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
