Manchester United expect to open talks with Jose Mourinho over a new contract before the end of this season.
Mourinho sparked some fears his stay at Old Trafford could be shorter than anticipated after admitting he will not finish his career in the North West while also praising Paris Saint-Germain.
The Portuguese has 18 months left on his three-year deal, with the option of a further campaign taking him to 2020.
United are keen for Mourinho to remain in charge for longer and sources had suggested that could be for as long as a decade.
Discussions are expected to commence in the coming months after United’s encouraging start which leaves them just two points behind rivals Manchester City in the Premier League.
Mourinho is thought to hold ambitions to coach at international level but club chiefs are not worried about the potential of him departing anytime soon.
‘I’m still a coach with worries, with ambitions, and with the desire to do new things,’ Mourinho told French TV. ‘I’m sure that I won’t end my career here.
‘The other day my son who lives in London went to Paris and not to Manchester to watch the match. At the moment in Paris there is something special. Magic, quality, youth, it’s fantastic.’
Mourinho is relaxed residing in the city’s luxury Lowry Hotel and, although hoping for further big signings next summer, is content at United.
