Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has reacted to President Kenyatta’s conflict with Kenyatta University by proposing renaming Kenyatta University to Githurai University.
President Uhuru has faced a lot of backlashes from William Ruto’s brigade following the resignation of Paul Wainaina as the Kenyatta University vice-chancellor.
Speaking during a UDA rally in Githurai, Kiambu County, the legislator claimed the President had personalized the University as a family project.
Nyoro, a staunch critic of Uhuru, alluded that the way to safeguard the institution’s interest is by changing its name.
Elgeyo-Marakwet County Senator Kipchumba Murkomen also expressed his displeasure saying public institutions should not be named after individuals.
In a Twitter post, Murkomen said some individuals tend to believe that public institutions named after their parents are part of their inheritance.
“Going forward, let’s not name public institutions after someone’s father, he or she will confuse it with family inheritance,” he said without mentioning names.
