Nairobi City County doctors’ strike called off after 3 weeks

The Nairobi County doctors strike has been called off. This is after the Kenya Medical Practioners and Dentists Union, KMPDU Nairobi branch reached a deal with the county government. However, the government has been asked to create a statutory body that will standardize the management of human resource for health. This is according to KMPDU National Secretary General Ouma Oluga who says that by doing that, strikes that result to pain and suffering among Kenyans will be eliminated.

Health CS Cleopa Mailu went to City Hall on Friday morning to address the issues raised by doctors. KMPDU Nairobi branch Secretary-General Dr. Thuranira Kaugiria said that the county has already released the salaries for the doctors.

He added that the doctors have been paid a one month salary and 5 months arrears in the September salary.

According to the agreement reached today, the county will promote all doctors by October 7th, 2016.
