NOCK to decide on technical officers to accompany Rugby Sevens teams to Rio

National Olympics Committee of Kenya will tomorrow make a decision on the composition of the rugby sevens teams technical officials accompanying the team to Rio.NOCK had earlier proposed that Kenya Sevens Coach Benjamin Ayimba and his Assistant Paul Murunga handle both Shujaa and Lionesses in Rio Olympics in a bid to reduce the number of traveling officials.

However, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Richard Omwela opposed the move and asked the Olympic Committee to separate the two entities. Omwela requested to have the teams handled by separate technical officials as per the requirements of the World Rugby.

He said the two teams will be treated as two different entries at the Olympics and there is no way they can share technical staff. The world rugby requires each team to have 12 players and three officials.

Lionesses Head Coach Mike Shamia, Shujaa Physio Lamech Bogonko and Strength and Conditioning Coach Geoffrey Kimani were to be dropped in the latest NOCK move ahead of Rio.
