Political leaders from the North Rift region have threatened to disrupt moi university graduation that will be held soon if Professor Isaac Kosgei will not be promoted to the vice chancellor of the institution. The move has since been criticized by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission saying universities should be allowed to have a national face.
Led by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago the political leaders from north rift including Marakwet Governor and his Uasin Gishu counterpart as well as area members of parliament said that the management of the institution is the reason why it was ranked second as one of the best universities in the country.
The leaders said that if Prof. Isaac Kosgei will not be promoted, they will disrupt the graduation ceremony that is set for Thursday this week.
They also criticized Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for appointing Laban Ayiro as the Vice chancellor on an acting capacity after Prof Richard Mibey retired on Monday.
But the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has condemned the move by the political leaders saying every Kenyan has a right to work anywhere in the republic.
The Francis Kaparo-led commission says the politicians should allow universities to have a national face.
