Number of abandoned patients on the rise in Naivasha Sub County Hospital

The number of abandoned patients at the Naivasha Sub County Hospital is on the rise with elderly men being the most affected. According to the management of the crowded facility, they record at least five cases every month, a move that has adversely affected their budget.

An elderly man only identified as Muiruri is one of the abandoned patients at the hospital. He has lived in Naivasha Sub County hospital for over two years now and has since healed. He was dropped in the hospital’s outpatient department by unknown people in 2014, suffering from head injuries.

According to the superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr.Joseph Mburu, the patient suffered brain injuries which affected his memory.

He said that the patient could not remember where he came from or his relatives thus making it hard to trace his home.

Speaking in his office, Mburu noted with concern the increasing number of abandoned patients especially men over 50 years of age, in the hospital that serves patients from neighbouring counties.

Mburu called on relatives with patients in the hospital to attend to them so that the facility that is currently facing congestion and resource strain could assist others. The Naivasha Sub County Hospital fraternity is now asking the concerned relatives to come pick their patients so as to enable other patients get services at the sub county hospital.
