OLYMPIC TRY OUTS TO BEGIN TOMORROW IN ELDORET

After verbal debate, the wait is over. Preparations are almost complete and the stage is set for the top guns to clash at the national Olympic trials tomorrow at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. The chase for elusive women’s olympic 10,000M medal will be tough as world 10,000m champion Vivian Cheruiyot, a silver (5,000m) and bronze (10,000m) medalist at the London Olympics, will lead olympic silver medalist Sally Kipyego and newly crowned Africa champion Alice Aprot.
But there will be no love lost in men’s 3,000M steeplechase race when two-time Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi, 2008 Olympic champion Brimin Kipruto and former Olympic bronze medalist Paul Kipsiele Koech lead the chase for slots against youngsters in two-time world silver medalist Conseslus Kipruto.
Elijah Kimitei, a member of the Commonwealth games squad, will anchor the long jump charges while Africa Champion Mathew Sawe will lead high jumpers.
Kipchoge Keino stadium was given the honour to host the trials last month and this will be the first time the team selection have been held outside Nairobi which has been the site of the past Olympic and world championships trials. The region was chosen because most of the Olympics athletes train and reside within the region.
