Sports CS Wario grilled over Rio mess and NOCK crisis

Sports Minister Hassan Wario appeared before the Parliamentary Committee of Labour and Social Welfare led by David Were, to explain his decision to disband the National Olympic Committee of Kenya. The CS lamented that the committee has given itself more powers and claimed that its officials behave like NOCK is above the law thus making it difficult for it to be accountable to the government. This transpired during his grilling in parliament on the just concluded Rio Olympics.

Wario was put to task to explain why athletes lacked basic needs such as track suits, sports gear and even decent accommodation, he was quick to blame NOCK saying all activities related to the Olympic games were delegated to the committee.

On the issue in court where the CS had disbanded NOCK, and the imminent threat of Kenya being banned from the Olympics in future, Wario was firm that Kenya cannot have a sports body which is above the law.

On matters allowances, the ministry shared documents showing that they had transferred the money directly into the accounts of the athletes.

Kenya managed to win 6 gold medals 6 silver medals as well as a bronze medal.
