TEA FARMERS URGE GOVERNMENT TO ACT RAPIDLY IN SOLVING TEA PRICES CRISIS

Tea farmers from south rift region are urging the government to help them by solving tea prices in the country.Speaking at Mogogosiek, Bomet County, Konoin Member of National Assembly Sammy Koech said the government must look for a way for the farmers just the way it did to sugarcane, coffee and miraa farmers.
Koech said tea farmers are the only ones remaining as the government has intervened on other sectors, calling on it to act before 2017.

He also called on multinational tea companies in Kericho and Bomet counties to pay 30% pay increment to the tea workers as directed y the court.

He accused Unilever Tea of buying time and appealing the case, saying that they should pay the the workers first before thinking of anything else.
He added that most of the tea workers comes from his constituency and South Rift at large and the economy of the region depends on the tea sector.
