On Friday, Kenya witnessed a significant milestone as Professor Kithure Kindiki officially took the oath of office, becoming the country’s third Deputy President under the new Constitution. This momentous event unfolded after a two-week delay, caused by earlier legal restrictions, which were finally lifted just in time for the ceremony.During the swearing-in, Kindiki made a heartfelt declaration:
“I, Kithure Kindiki, solemnly swear to faithfully and diligently serve the people of Kenya and the Republic in my role as Deputy President. I assure you that I will carry out my duties to the utmost of my abilities, providing sincere advice to the President whenever needed. I commit to delivering justice fairly and without prejudice, and I will safeguard the confidentiality of all matters entrusted to me. So help me God.”

Before receiving his nomination from President William Ruto, Kindiki served with distinction as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration. His appointment was subsequently ratified by the National Assembly, marking a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape.The path to his swearing-in was made smoother by a High Court ruling on Thursday, which removed the obstacles that had delayed the process.
On the day of the ceremony, Kindiki arrived at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) promptly at 10 am, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Joyce Kindiki. Prior to the formal proceedings, he took time to visit his former office at Harambee House, where he was warmly received by senior staff, including Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo. Together, they proceeded to the KICC, ready to mark the beginning of this new and important phase in his public service.
