Renowned pastor and motivational speaker Robert Burale has filed a lawsuit against his former wife Rozina Mwakideu and media personality Alex Mwakideu, seeking Ksh.20 million in damages for alleged defamation.
Rozina and Alex, who are siblings, have been named as the first and second defendants, respectively, in a suit lodged at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Defamation Claim Stemming from YouTube Interview
At the center of the legal dispute is an interview titled “My Biggest Mistake Was Marrying Robert Burale,” which was published on October 4, 2025, on the Alex Mwakideu TV YouTube channel.
In the court documents, Burale—describing himself as a cleric of national repute—claims that the interview portrayed him in a damaging light, labeling him as manipulative, hypocritical, a swindler, and a homosexual. He asserts that the statements made during the episode were false, malicious, and calculated to tarnish his name, reputation, and personal integrity as a pastor and mentor.
Allegations Against Alex Mwakideu
Burale has also accused Alex Mwakideu of professional negligence, saying he failed to verify the serious allegations made during the interview or provide Burale with an opportunity to respond.
Adding to the gravity of the matter, Burale claims Alex actively encouraged viewers to “share widely,” which allegedly accelerated the spread of the defamatory content across digital platforms.
Impact on Reputation and Ministry
According to Burale, the remarks—several of which have been time-stamped in the suit—have:
- Lowered his reputation in the eyes of right-thinking members of society
- Exposed him to ridicule and mental anguish
- Jeopardised his ministry and source of livelihood
He is now seeking a mandatory and permanent injunction compelling the removal of the video and any related posts. Additionally, Burale wants:
- A public apology to be published widely
- An appeal for deletion of all re-uploads across platforms
- General and aggravated damages amounting to Ksh.20 million
- Costs of the suit and any other relief the court may deem appropriate
Reference to Radio Segment
The suit also cites an October 7, 2025 segment on Radio 47, during which Alex Mwakideu allegedly attempted to distance himself from some of the statements made in the interview.
Current Status of the Case
The matter has been filed under the court’s fast-track procedure, but as of now, the defendants have not yet filed their responses.
