The family of the late Beryl Lilian Achieng Odinga, sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has announced that the late Beryl will be buried on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County. The announcement was made by Raila Odinga Junior, a nephew of the late Beryl, who said the family had gathered to finalize the funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Consolata Shrine in Westlands. The family has also appealed to Kenyans for financial assistance to help cover the funeral expenses.

Family Guidance and the Significance of Kang’o Ka Jaramogi

According to Raila Junior, the burial decisions were guided by Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, with the family seeking his approval before finalizing the arrangements.

With the blessings of my uncle, Dr Oburu, we sat down with Jokawuor and chose the final resting place for my late aunt, Beryl Lilian Achieng Mungwari Odinga.

Raila Junior

The site, Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, is historically and personally significant, being closely linked to the legacy of Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Beryl’s father.

Honoring a Life of Strength and Grace

Raila Odinga Junior described his aunt as a woman of strength, grace, and quiet influence. He noted that his aunt’s life deeply touched the entire Odinga family and all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, grace, and quiet impact. Beryl passed away on November 25, 2025, at a Nairobi hospital after a prolonged illness. She was 78 years old and had spent several years in and out of medical care.

Life Beyond Politics

Though part of one of Kenya’s most influential political families, Beryl maintained a largely private life. She was the fourth-born in the Odinga family, after Siaya senator Oburu Odinga, the late prime minister Raila Odinga, the late Ngire Omuodo Agola, and Dr. Akinyi Wenwa.

Her achievements extended beyond politics, with notable professional accomplishments in both Kenya and Zimbabwe. She was married to the late Otieno Ambala, who briefly served as Member of Parliament for Gem before his death in 1985 at Kodiaga prisons

Family Involvement in Funeral Arrangements

The Odinga family has been actively coordinating the funeral preparations. Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has played a key role in supporting the arrangements, while Senator Oburu Oginga, who returned from a short sabbatical in Dubai on November 28, 2025, has provided guidance throughout the process.
