President William Ruto is today expected to launch the second phase of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project in Eldoret, marking a major milestone in the government’s youth empowerment agenda. The event, which will take place at Eldoret Sports Club, will not only signal the rollout of Phase Two but will also serve as a fund disbursement exercise for young people who have successfully qualified for the programme.
Thousands of Youths to Benefit
According to the Ministry of Cooperatives, approximately 50,000 young Kenyans will receive financial support under the initiative. Each beneficiary will be allocated Ksh 22,000, which will be deposited directly into their NYOTA mobile wallets to support entrepreneurship and income-generating activities. In addition, beneficiaries will have Ksh 3,000 remitted to their National Social Security Fund (NSSF) accounts, aimed at encouraging a savings culture and long-term financial security among the youth.
Regional Disbursement Schedule
The ongoing disbursement exercise will cover several counties in the Rift Valley and surrounding regions. Beneficiaries from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Trans-Nzoia, Turkana, and West Pokot are scheduled to receive their funds during the Eldoret phase. Meanwhile, Nakuru will host follow-up NYOTA events on January 9 and January 12, targeting youth from Nakuru, Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Baringo, Laikipia, Isiolo, and Samburu counties.
Boosting Youth Entrepreneurship
The NYOTA Project is a flagship government programme designed to tackle youth unemployment by providing financial support, skills development, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The launch of Phase Two is expected to expand the programme’s reach and strengthen efforts to empower young people to become self-reliant and economically productive.
