Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates who qualify for training at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) have been invited to apply for available courses through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal. KUCCPS officially opened the application window on Wednesday, with the exercise set to run until January 27, 2026.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
The January application window is open to candidates who sat their KCSE examinations in 2024 or earlier. Candidates who completed KCSE in 2025 will not take part in the current application cycle, as their results are yet to be released. Instead, they will be considered for placement during the September 2026 intake.
KMTC Lowers Entry Requirements for Insurance Course
In a statement issued by KUCCPS, it was revealed that KMTC has revised the minimum entry requirement for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management course. The required grade in Biology or Biological Sciences has been lowered from D+ to D (plain). KUCCPS noted that the move was recommended by KMTC to support the implementation of the government’s Taifa Care programme, which focuses on expanding access to healthcare through social health insurance.
Growing Demand in Health Insurance and Automation
According to KUCCPS, students enrolling in the Health Insurance Management programme will enjoy a competitive edge in the job market due to the growing demand for professionals skilled in health service automation and Social Health Insurance implementation.
Where the Course Is Offered
The two-year certificate course is available at several KMTC campuses, including Bondo, Chwele, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyamache, Nyeri, Rachuonyo, Rera, and Webuye. KUCCPS emphasized that lowering the minimum entry grade will not affect training standards, noting that professional regulatory bodies regularly assess KMTC to ensure quality training is maintained.
Thousands of Vacancies Available Nationwide
Successful applicants will report for training during the March 2026 intake, where 21,774 slots are available across 36 Certificate and Diploma programmes offered in 98 KMTC campuses nationwide. The application exercise is part of the 2026 phased university and college student placement process.
How to Apply
Eligible KCSE certificate holders are encouraged to log into the KUCCPS online application system, select their preferred KMTC Diploma or Certificate programmes, and submit applications based on the stated minimum requirements.
