Raphael Tuju at Risk of Losing Karen Properties as Court Rejects Bid to Stop Auction

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju is facing the possibility of losing several prime properties in Karen after the High Court declined to stop their planned auction. The court ruling dismissed an application that sought to temporarily halt the sale of the properties, clearing the way for creditors to proceed with the auction process as part of efforts to recover an outstanding debt. The decision marks another chapter in the long-running legal dispute involving Tuju and the financial institutions pursuing the claim.

Court Declines Request to Halt Auction

In the ruling, the court found that the application presented by Tuju and associated parties did not meet the threshold required to justify stopping the auction at this stage. The judge ruled that there were insufficient grounds to grant the orders sought, meaning the process leading to the sale of the Karen properties can move forward. Tuju had moved to court seeking urgent intervention to block the auction, arguing that selling the properties would cause significant financial loss and raise broader legal concerns tied to the ongoing dispute.

However, the court held that the matters raised could still be addressed through the ongoing legal proceedings and did not warrant immediate suspension of the auction process.

Prime Karen Properties at Stake

The properties in question are located in the upscale Karen area of Nairobi, one of the city’s most sought-after residential and commercial locations. If the auction proceeds as planned, Tuju could lose control of the high-value assets that have been at the center of the legal battle. The dispute stems from a financial claim that creditors are seeking to recover through the sale of the properties after alleging default on repayment obligations.

Despite the court’s decision, the case itself remains active, and further legal proceedings are expected as both sides continue to argue their positions. Tuju still has legal avenues available, including possible appeals or negotiations, depending on how the matter unfolds. For now, however, the ruling means that the auction process may continue unless a higher court intervenes or the parties reach an alternative settlement.

The case has drawn public attention due to Tuju’s prominence in Kenya’s political landscape and the high value of the Karen properties involved. As developments continue, the outcome of the dispute could have significant financial implications for the former Cabinet Secretary and the parties pursuing the debt.
