The whereabouts of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju remain unknown days after he was reported missing, prompting investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). According to authorities, a missing person report was filed by Tuju’s family at Karen Police Station on Sunday, March 22. The family indicated that he disappeared on Saturday while en route to a scheduled radio interview, accompanied by his driver.
Investigators revealed that Tuju’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane in the Karen area. The car was reportedly left with its hazard lights on, raising suspicion. A nearby security guard is said to have alerted authorities, prompting officers from Karen Police Station to respond swiftly to the scene.
DCI Calls for Cooperation
The DCI confirmed that a formal investigation into the mysterious disappearance is underway. Detectives have urged Tuju’s family and other relevant parties to fully cooperate to help speed up the process. Authorities also noted that investigators were denied access to Tuju’s residence on Mwitu Drive when they attempted to follow up on the case.
We urge full cooperation from all involved, including access to key locations and timely sharing of information, to enable a thorough and swift investigation
DCIDetectives are appealing to members of the public who may have seen Tuju, his vehicle, or any unusual activity around Miotoni Lane or the greater Karen area before, during, or after March 21, 2026, to come forward. Information can be shared through official DCI hotlines, with assurances of confidentiality.
Ongoing Court Battle Over Dari Business Park
Tuju’s disappearance comes amid an ongoing legal dispute tied to the ownership of Dari Business Park in Karen. The case involves an alleged default on a loan amounting to Ksh.1.9 billion borrowed from the East African Development Bank (EADB) in 2015. The original loan stood at USD 9.2 million (approximately Ksh.1.2 billion), with the remaining balance attributed to accrued interest. The contested properties include Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary and Tamarind Karen, both located within the Karen area, as well as the Dari Business Park.
Just days before his disappearance, on March 19, Tuju had written to Inspector General Douglas Kanja raising concerns over what he termed as an unlawful police presence at Dari Business Park. In his letter, Tuju alleged that more than 100 police officers had raided the premises in the early hours of March 13 without a court order and had remained stationed there for nearly a week.
