Kirinyaga County is mourning the death of former Senator Daniel Karaba, whose passing was confirmed on Monday by Governor Anne Waiguru. In her statement, Waiguru described Karaba as a distinguished leader whose life was marked by humility, dedication, and a strong commitment to education and public service.

Before venturing into politics, Karaba built a solid career in the education sector. He started as a teacher and steadily rose through the ranks to become a school principal and respected education leader. Governor Waiguru noted that his journey in education laid the foundation for his leadership style, which emphasized service and community development.

Karaba transitioned into politics in 2002 after leaving his role at Highway Secondary School. In the 2003 General Election, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central, a position he held for two terms. In 2013, following the introduction of the Senate under Kenya’s new Constitution, Karaba made history by becoming the first Senator for Kirinyaga County. However, he lost the seat in the 2017 General Election to Charles Kibiru.

Karaba will be remembered for his contribution to both the education sector and national leadership, having impacted many lives through his work as a teacher, legislator, and community leader. Leaders and residents across Kirinyaga County continue to pay tribute to a man widely regarded as a dedicated public servant.
