Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has announced plans to seek the presidency in 2032, following his intended bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. Speaking during a radio interview on Wednesday, Babu said he would serve only one term as Nairobi governor if elected, using the five-year period to transform the capital before pursuing the presidency. The MP said he had discussed the one-term approach with other leaders and expressed confidence that his political ambitions would eventually lead him to the State House.
Babu Confident of Winning Nairobi Governor Seat
Babu expressed strong confidence in his chances of becoming Nairobi governor in 2027, dismissing potential competitors as a serious threat to his bid. He said he believes Nairobi residents would give him the opportunity to lead the county and urged voters to prepare for his expected tenure.
The Embakasi East legislator cited his record in Parliament as part of the reasons he believes he is suited to lead Nairobi. Babu claimed that no audit report has linked him to the misappropriation of public funds during his time as MP.
He also pointed to several development projects in Embakasi East, including the completion of 88 roads and efforts to facilitate the acquisition of school buses for schools within the constituency. The lawmaker further said he has been recognised as one of the best-performing sitting MPs on several occasions, arguing that his parliamentary performance demonstrates his ability to deliver if elected governor.
Babu’s latest declaration sets the stage for a political journey that could see him transition from Embakasi East MP to Nairobi governor in 2027 before mounting a presidential campaign five years later.
