The National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) has appointed Dr. James Mworia Mwirigi as its founding Chief Executive Officer, with his appointment taking effect on September 7, 2026. According to the NIF Board of Directors, Mworia will be responsible for steering the newly established institution as it works towards becoming a credible national investment institution capable of supporting major infrastructure development in Kenya.
In his new role, Mworia will oversee the establishment of NIF’s organisational structure, workforce, systems and institutional culture. He will also be tasked with putting in place effective governance, investment and risk management frameworks. The new CEO will further lead efforts to develop a strong pipeline of viable infrastructure projects capable of attracting investment and co-investment capital.
NIF said Mworia will also oversee the advancement of priority projects by ensuring they undergo proper appraisal, financial structuring and execution. The Board expressed confidence that his leadership will help lay the institutional foundation required for the Fund to effectively deliver on its infrastructure investment mandate. Mworia’s appointment marks a key step in operationalising the National Infrastructure Fund and positioning it to mobilise capital and support the development of strategic infrastructure projects in the country.
