Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has officially declared his intention to contest the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election, promising to fix the capital’s challenges under a campaign slogan that brands him “Mr Fix-it.” Mosiria made the announcement on Sunday during a visit by Jubilee Party leaders to Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church in Nairobi, where he also appeared to propose Wanjiru as his potential deputy governor. The county official was introduced by Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and expressed confidence that his experience in the county government had prepared him to lead Nairobi.

Mosiria Promises to Implement Previous Governors’ Manifestos

Mosiria pledged to complete development projects and implement plans initiated by former Nairobi governors Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko, as well as those outlined by his current boss, Governor Johnson Sakaja. He argued that previous administrations had developed promising manifestos but had not fully implemented their commitments. The aspirant said he intended to build on the existing plans rather than introduce an entirely new manifesto, promising to ensure that unfinished development programmes were completed. He also pointed to his current responsibilities in the county government, arguing that his work had demonstrated his ability to address Nairobi’s challenges.

Health, Environment and Customer Service Experience

Mosiria defended his leadership record by highlighting his experience across several departments within the Nairobi County Government. He began his public service career in the health sector before serving as Chief Officer for Health Facilities. He was transferred to the Environment docket in August 2024, where he focused on issues including garbage collection. In November 2025, he was reassigned to Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, a role in which he said he had intervened in cases involving women and children.

Mosiria maintained that his experience in these departments had equipped him with the knowledge needed to manage the county and improve service delivery. He further argued that Nairobi required firm leadership capable of confronting criminal gangs and cartels that he believes undermine the city’s development.

Mosiria’s declaration comes amid growing speculation about his political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election. On Saturday, he shared a photograph of himself with Matiang’i, accompanied by a caption suggesting that seeking support from a parent figure was an important first step before embarking on a journey. The post sparked speculation about whether Mosiria was seeking Matiang’i’s political backing as he prepares to challenge Sakaja for the Nairobi governorship. Earlier in October, Mosiria announced his intention to run for governor, saying he had consulted former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko before making the decision.

Mosiria Joins Crowded Nairobi Gubernatorial Race

Mosiria’s entry into the race adds to the growing list of politicians and aspirants seeking to lead Nairobi County after the 2027 General Election. Among those who have expressed interest in the seat are incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.

With several contenders positioning themselves for the contest, Nairobi’s gubernatorial race is expected to attract heightened political activity as the election approaches. Mosiria is banking on his experience in county administration and his pledge to address service delivery challenges as he seeks to convince Nairobi residents to support his bid.
