Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo to Be Buried at Lumakanda Home on December 30

The family of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has announced that he will be laid to rest at his rural home in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, on Tuesday, December 30. The burial arrangements were confirmed on Sunday following a consultative meeting by a funeral planning committee set up to oversee the final rites. The committee is chaired by former Member of Parliament Fred Gumo and includes close family members, friends, and political associates of the late legislator.

Funeral Committee Confirms Burial Plans

Addressing members of the press after the meeting, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi Khaniri, who spoke on behalf of the committee, said the family had agreed on the burial date and venue after extensive consultations.

We have constituted a committee to coordinate the funeral arrangements for our brother. We have tentatively agreed that the burial will take place on December 30, and that he will be laid to rest at his Lumakanda family homestead, next to his parents

Tragic Death in Road Accident

Jirongo died in a tragic road accident in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, while travelling to his rural home in Lugari. According to preliminary reports, his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax Coach bus along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway. Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama confirmed the incident, stating that the former legislator died on the spot at approximately 3:00 a.m. Investigations into the accident are ongoing. The news of his sudden death sent shockwaves across the country, prompting an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, business figures, and members of the public.

Cyrus Jirongo was a well-known political figure and businessman who served as Lugari MP, where he earned a reputation as a vocal and influential leader.
