In a significant shift within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been appointed as the new deputy party leader. This announcement came during a meeting of the UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Monday morning, where members decided to replace the former deputy leader, Rigathi Gachagua.
The NEC’s decision stemmed from Gachagua’s recent impeachment, which was successfully carried out last month. UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar shared that this transition was necessary as Gachagua could no longer perform his duties in the party’s leadership role.
The officials conveyed their optimism about Kindiki’s appointment, citing his outstanding capabilities as a driving force for the party’s future endeavors. In his first remarks as deputy party leader, Kindiki pledged his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the party. He emphasized the need for collaboration with various sectors to tackle challenges that affect both the UDA and the broader nation.
“I want to reassure you of my steadfast commitment to the principles our party stands for,l will work closely with all the established structures of our party to enhance our performance.”
He noted that he assumes this pivotal role at a crucial juncture for Kenya, asserting that UDA advocates for unity among all Kenyans, irrespective of their diverse backgrounds.
The unity of Kenya should not be viewed as a threat to any of its constituent communities,”
Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment was confirmed by the Senate on October 17, following the National Assembly’s decision on October 8, marking a transformative moment in the party’s leadership. As Kindiki steps into his new role, he carries the hopes of UDA supporters for a stronger and more unified future.
