Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot has expressed confidence that his team will rebound from recent setbacks as they prepare for the Champions League quarter-final rematch with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Liverpool will welcome back striker Alexander Isak, who has been sidelined since December with a leg fracture, providing a boost for the first-leg clash in Paris. Slot indicated that while Isak is ready to participate, he may not start immediately as the team gradually reintegrates him into full match fitness.

The game comes after a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup, a loss that sparked debate about the team’s morale. Captain Virgil van Dijk had suggested players may have given up, but Slot dismissed the notion, emphasizing that strong reactions from leaders are natural after tough matches.

Liverpool enter the tie under pressure, having won only one of their last five games and currently sitting fifth in the Premier League, putting their European qualification hopes at risk. Slot acknowledged the difficulty of facing the reigning European champions, noting that last season’s tie ended in a penalty shootout defeat despite a first-leg win in Paris.

Slot urged his squad to maintain intensity from the first to the last minute, drawing lessons from their first 30 minutes against Manchester City, before the team faltered. He also praised PSG’s strength, describing them as near-impossible to outperform given their current form and last season’s dominance.

Despite the team’s struggles, key signings like German midfielder Florian Wirtz have voiced continued support for Slot. Wirtz emphasized that the squad believes in the manager’s capabilities and remains motivated to compete for trophies this season.

With Isak’s return and renewed focus, Liverpool hope to turn their Champions League campaign around, aiming for a strong performance against a formidable PSG side. Slot remains determined to guide his team through the challenge, highlighting the importance of resilience and taking second chances seriously in football.
