Meta Introduces Monetization Features for Creators in Kenya

Meta has announced the rollout of new monetization features for eligible Facebook creators in Kenya, marking a significant expansion of its support for content creators in the region. The new features, In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels, will allow creators to earn revenue from their original video and Reels content.

Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey at Meta, emphasized the impact of this rollout: “Every day, we’re inspired by the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others, and bring people together. This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry in Kenya to earn money while setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators.”

The In-Stream Ads feature allows ads to be displayed before, during, or after on-demand videos, whether they are pre-recorded or recorded live streams. These ads come in various formats, including:

  • Pre-roll Ads: Play before a video starts.
  • Mid-roll Ads: Appear during the video.
  • Image Ads: Static ads displayed beneath the video content.
  • Post-roll Ads: Ads that appear after the video has ended.

Similarly, Ads on Facebook Reels will seamlessly integrate into creators’ Reels, enabling them to earn revenue based on the performance of their content.

Meta has also ensured that this initiative supports content in over 30 languages globally, including Swahili, broadening the reach and impact for Kenyan creators. To participate, creators must comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies, be at least 18 years old, and meet certain eligibility criteria, such as having a minimum of 5,000 followers for in-stream ads.

This move by Meta highlights the growing importance of digital content creation in Kenya and provides a new avenue for creators to monetize their work, further boosting the local creative industry.
