The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has chosen Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to lead its campaign for the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election. Mudavadi, who is also the former ANC party leader, will help rally support for the party in the area.
While speaking to over 100 elders and clan leaders from the 29 Kabras clans—who are the majority in Malava—Mudavadi promised that UDA would choose a candidate who truly represents the people’s values and hopes.
“Until you elect a new MP, I am your Patron in Malava,” said Mudavadi. He urged residents to continue with the development work started by the late MP Malulu Injendi and to support a candidate who can deliver on the people’s needs.
Mudavadi also said he would hold more meetings with youth, women, farmers, business people, religious leaders, and others to hear their views on Malava’s future. He stressed the importance of electing a leader who is honest, dependable, and focused on real issues—not empty promises or drama.
He asked voters to avoid being divided by clan politics, saying that while clans are important to culture, they should not influence elections in a negative way.
“Don’t let short-term excitement make you choose the wrong leader,” he said, adding humorously, “If you sell your father’s land to buy a trumpet, where will you stand to blow it?”
Mudavadi reminded residents that all candidates will still be sons or daughters of Malava, but it is their character, track record, and vision that should matter most. He asked the elders to help guide the community in choosing wisely.
He also promised to follow up with the government on key development projects started by the late MP. These include:
- Completing the Malava-Ikoli and Malava-Samitsi roads
- Advancing the Namanja and Sikhuyu water projects
- Building student hostels at Shamberere National Polytechnic
- Completing Malava Medical Training College
- Opening the Kabras West Sub-County offices
The elders also asked for new administrative areas in East and West Kabras to be made official and staffed with government officers.
Mudavadi said he has already contacted the relevant Cabinet Secretaries to speed up work on roads and administrative units.
Earlier in the week, Mudavadi met with government officers, local leaders, and UDA officials to discuss Malava’s future.
As UDA works to win back the Malava parliamentary seat, Mudavadi’s involvement brings political experience and strong community ties. He promised to walk with the people of Malava and help choose a leader who will truly serve them and support President Ruto’s development agenda.
