The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Monday held a high-level consultative meeting in Vipingo, Kilifi County, as the party seeks to resolve emerging internal disagreements and restore cohesion within its ranks. The Central Management Committee (CMC) meeting was chaired by ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga, who emphasized the party’s commitment to dialogue, unity, and inclusive decision-making. The talks come at a time when ODM is facing growing internal pressure, including reports of a splinter faction planning a parallel meeting in Nairobi.

Speaking during the Vipingo convention, Oburu reaffirmed the party’s guiding principles, noting that ODM remains focused on internal consultations and listening to both its members and the wider Kenyan public as it charts its future course.

As a party, we remain committed to unity of purpose and principled leadership. We will continue engaging our members and Kenyans as we collectively shape ODM’s direction in the period ahead

Several senior ODM leaders attended the meeting, underlining its significance. Those present included Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, and Kisii Governor Simba Arati. Lawmakers and party officials such as Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ongwen, and Treasurer Timothy Bosire were also in attendance.

The meeting follows recent calls for unity within the party. Last week, Ida Odinga, the spouse of former Prime Minister and longtime ODM leader Raila Odinga, urged party officials to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation to prevent a potential split within the Orange party. Political observers view the Vipingo talks as a critical step toward stabilizing ODM’s internal structures as the party navigates a sensitive period marked by leadership and strategic differences.
