Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has confirmed that the fate of 16 Kenyans recruited to participate in the Russia-Ukraine conflict remains uncertain. He also disclosed that 38 other Kenyans are currently hospitalized, highlighting the severe risks associated with citizens joining foreign wars.

PSC Mudavadi stated that the government is working closely with international partners to obtain accurate information about the missing Kenyans and to ensure that those hospitalized receive timely medical care. The government has also called on families to remain patient and assured them that every effort is being made to safeguard the lives of their loved ones. Authorities are coordinating with diplomatic missions, international organizations, and local contacts to track the missing citizens and provide necessary humanitarian assistance.

This development has raised serious questions about the recruitment of Kenyans to fight in overseas conflicts. Officials warn that participation in foreign wars carries significant legal, physical, and emotional risks. PSC Mudavadi emphasized the need for public awareness regarding the dangers of joining such conflicts and cautioned against unofficial recruitment channels that may exploit vulnerable citizens.

The situation has also drawn attention to the importance of protecting the rights and welfare of citizens abroad. Mudavadi noted that the government is exploring all possible avenues to ensure proper medical attention and support for the hospitalized, as well as legal protection for those whose status remains uncertain.

PSC Mudavadi reassured the public that the government is monitoring the situation closely. Regular updates will be provided as new information emerges, ensuring transparency and accountability. The government remains committed to upholding the safety, welfare, and human rights of all Kenyans, whether at home or abroad. The incident serves as a reminder of the complex risks involved when citizens participate in conflicts outside national borders and highlights the need for effective government oversight, public awareness, and international cooperation.
