President William Ruto has set his sights on a commanding victory in the 2027 General Election, saying he wants to secure a win by a margin of between two and three million votes as he explores the possibility of a coalition with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting on Monday, the President said his administration is focused on expanding its political base to foster national unity and safeguard gains made under the broad-based government.
Broad-Based Government Praised
Ruto said the cooperation between UDA and ODM has delivered results, praising ODM leaders serving in government for their performance. He pointed out that the narrow margin in the 2022 election underscored the need for a wider political alliance.
In the next election, we want to win by between two and three million votes so that we can unite the country and move forward together
President RutoCoalition Talks Ongoing
The Head of State confirmed that talks are underway between UDA and ODM on the possibility of forming a formal coalition ahead of the 2027 polls. He said the aim is to bring together diverse political forces to strengthen national cohesion and governance. Ruto also called for the fast-tracking of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, urging both the National Assembly and the Senate to expedite its implementation.
Focus on Party Structures and Grassroots Strength
The President emphasized the importance of strong party structures, particularly at the grassroots level. He directed that UDA grassroots elections be repeated in polling centres where voter turnout was low, saying meaningful participation is key to building a solid and loyal party base. According to Ruto, party nominations will be strictly managed by UDA, with repeat nominations conducted in areas where the process did not meet expectations. He said polling-centre-based elections are central to strengthening the party ahead of the next election.
Economic Optimism and Public Ownership Plans
On the economy, Ruto expressed confidence in Kenya’s long-term outlook, saying the country has the potential to achieve first-world status within the next 30 years if reforms are sustained. He also revealed plans to allow Kenyans to buy shares in the Kenya Pipeline Company, a move he said will broaden public ownership and deepen citizen participation in key state enterprises. As political realignments take shape ahead of 2027, the President’s remarks signal an early push for unity, party consolidation, and a decisive electoral mandate.
