Authorities have declared a seven-day dusk-to-dawn curfew in the Tipis and Mwisho wa Lami areas of Nakuru County following renewed ethnic clashes in Mau Narok that resulted in one death, eight injuries, and 12 houses being set ablaze. The violence, which broke out on Saturday along the Nakuru–Narok border, forced dozens of families to flee their homes as attackers torched properties in a night of fear and chaos.

Residents Recount Night of Terror

Local residents described terrifying scenes of violence and displacement saying they have lost peace as some of them have been left homeless after their houses were burnt down. A resident claimed that over 200 people invaded their settlement, leaving many with no option but to flee for safety.

By Sunday 31st August 2025, the unrest escalated into protests as residents barricaded sections of the Nakuru–Narok road at Mwisho wa Lami, decrying the violence and demanding immediate government intervention. Among those injured was Moses Masai, who said he had to relocate with his family after being attacked during the night.

Government Response and Security Measures

In a swift response, the government deployed heavy security to restore calm in the volatile region. A high-level security meeting was convened at Tipis Centre, involving administrators and police commanders from both Nakuru and Narok counties. Narok County Commissioner Kipketch Lotiatia attributed the clashes to a dispute that began over electricity connections and escalated into full-blown conflict involving road blockades and physical attacks.

His Nakuru counterpart, Loyford Kibaara, announced the establishment of additional police posts in the affected areas and emphasized that the curfew would be strictly enforced throughout the week.
