In a shocking turn of events, police in Busia have apprehended a 23-year-old woman after discovering her with a child believed to have been stolen.
The suspect, identified as Lydia Anyango, is a resident of Bukiri in the Funyula area. What adds an intriguing layer to this case is that OCPD Richard Morara revealed this isn’t Lydia’s first brush with the law. In January 2024, she was arrested for allegedly impersonating a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in Butula. During that incident, she appeared in court donned in a complete GSU uniform, introducing herself under the alias Jacinta Ouma.
Fast forward a few months, and Anyango finds herself back in the headlines, but this time for an even more unsettling reason. Authorities discovered her nursing a one-month-old infant, raising suspicions that the child might not be her own.
Officer Morara mentioned that Lydia had left her village six months ago, only to return suddenly with a baby in her arms. Villagers were taken aback, as she had not shown any signs of pregnancy before her departure, leaving many puzzled by her unexpected arrival as a new mother.Lydia’s situation took a critical turn when she was unable to provide any hospital records or maternity papers related to the child. As a result, she is currently detained at the Sio Port police station, while the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the child’s origins.
This case highlights serious concerns about child welfare and the lengths individuals may go to for various reasons. As the investigation unfolds, the community watches closely, eager for answers in this unsettling incident.
