More than 7 million Kenyan farmers are set to benefit from a major digital shift in the agriculture sector following the official handover of the Kenya Integrated Agriculture Management Information System (KIAMIS) to the Ministry of Agriculture. The handover, witnessed during the ongoing Intergovernmental Forum on Agriculture in Naivasha, was led by FAO Deputy Country Representative Hamisi William, who presented the system to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe. The event marked one of the most significant digital milestones in Kenya’s agricultural modernization journey.
KIAMIS to Be Hosted at KADIC
KIAMIS, now hosting 7.1 million registered farmers across crops and livestock, will be domiciled at the newly upgraded Kenya Agricultural Digital Information Centre (KADIC). The platform is expected to serve as a central hub for agricultural data, supporting farmers, policymakers, and development partners. CS Kagwe hailed the move as a “new dawn for Kenyan farmers”, positioning it as a core part of the government’s Digital Super Highway agenda.
Every village in Kenya and every farmer will now be connected to the digital super highway. This is critical for delivering subsidized farm inputs, soil health information, and tailored agronomic advisories directly to farmers’ phones
CS Mutahi Kagwe ANITRAC Strengthening Livestock Traceability
The handover comes at a time when the ministry is also achieving major progress with the Animal Identification and Traceability System (ANITRAC), which was launched in May 2025.
ANITRAC provides a centralized and reliable framework for animal identification, registration, traceability, and movement tracking. According to Livestock Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, the system is already transforming Kenya’s livestock sector and positioning the country competitively in global premium markets.
Today’s consumer wants traceability from farm to fork. If we are going to compete in premium global markets, we must demonstrate that our farmers meet every export requirement with absolute integrity
PS Jonathan Mueke Mueke added that since the rollout of the ANITRAC policy, Kenya’s meat exports have increased by 45%, proving the value of structured traceability in unlocking high-value opportunities.
Consolidating KIAMIS and ANITRAC Under KADIC
ANITRAC aims to connect international buyers with Kenyan farmers by offering comprehensive visibility into vaccination history, animal movement, and real-time health data.
With both KIAMIS and ANITRAC now consolidated under KADIC, Kenya joins the ranks of a few African nations with an integrated national digital agriculture and livestock traceability system strengthening food safety, boosting export credibility, and improving farmer livelihoods.
