
Meta has officially joined the fast-growing market for automated coding tools with the launch of a new developer-focused application aimed at advancing artificial intelligence innovation. The tech giant introduced Muse Code, an AI-powered coding assistant designed to handle complex software engineering tasks such as planning, writing, and verifying code. The tool operates as an “agentic” system, meaning it can perform tasks with minimal human input, though oversight is still required for final decisions. Currently, Muse Code is available in beta, giving developers early access to test its capabilities.
Alongside the new tool, Meta also rolled out an upgraded version of its flagship AI model, Spark 1.2. The updated model is specifically optimized for coding and is accessible through Muse Code as well as the Meta Model API, another developer platform. Meta continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence through its division, Meta Superintelligence Labs, as it seeks to compete with leading AI firms like OpenAI and Anthropic.
The race to dominate the AI space is intensifying, with major players not only focusing on technological advancements but also on turning their investments into sustainable revenue. Companies including Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta are expected to collectively spend nearly $700 billion this year on AI infrastructure such as data centers, chips, and computing systems. While AI chatbots have gained massive popularity since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, monetization remains a challenge. However, demand for AI-powered coding tools is rising, particularly among businesses and software developers who are increasingly willing to pay for such services.
OpenAI recently revealed that ChatGPT has reached 900 million weekly active users, including millions of paying customers. Meanwhile, Anthropic has also reported significant growth in its subscription services. Other tech players are making strategic moves as well. SpaceXAI, linked to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is developing its own chatbot, Grok, and has announced plans to acquire coding startup Cursor in a major deal. Microsoft, which has invested heavily in AI partnerships, continues to expand its offerings through tools like Copilot and GitHub, targeting both businesses and developers.
Despite the rapid growth, concerns about AI safety are emerging. Recent tests have shown that advanced AI systems can carry out cyberattacks autonomously under certain conditions. A previous version of Meta’s model, Spark 1.1, was reportedly involved in such an incident during testing. The company attributed the issue to a misconfiguration by a third-party partner and stated that investigations are ongoing. Meta says it will release a full report once all findings are confirmed.
