The High Court has directed former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari to personally attend court when judgment is delivered in a Sh1.9 billion asset recovery case filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). Justice Nixon Sifuna issued the directive after the couple failed to show up in court on two earlier occasions when the ruling was scheduled. The judge expressed concern over the repeated absences, stating that the court could no longer accommodate delays linked to non-attendance by the respondents.

Court Warns Against Further Delays

In his ruling, Justice Sifuna made it clear that the matter has reached its conclusion and will proceed as scheduled. The case is being heard at the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division of the High Court and focuses on assets that the EACC alleges were unlawfully acquired while Waititu held public office.

EACC Targets Alleged Illicit Wealth

The anti-graft agency is seeking the forfeiture of multiple properties and assets believed to have been obtained through corruption. According to the Commission, the total value of the assets under dispute is estimated at approximately Sh1.9 billion. The outcome of the case is expected to be a significant test of Kenya’s asset recovery framework and the government’s broader efforts to reclaim public wealth lost through corruption.
