Nairobi United FC has named experienced tactician Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor as their new head coach, bringing an end to weeks of speculation following the departure of Nicholas Muyoti. Oduor joins the FKF Cup champions from South Sudanese side Jamus FC, where he served as assistant coach since 2024. He now steps into one of the most high-pressure roles of his career, tasked with steering Nairobi United to continued domestic and continental success. The club had been searching for a permanent head coach after Muyoti left two weeks ago to take over as head coach of Kenya Police FC, the defending Kenyan Premier League champions. During the interim, Technical Director Salim Ali led the team, guiding them to one win and two draws in three matches.

A Wealth of Coaching Experience

Oduor’s coaching résumé spans both club and national team football:

  • Jamus FC (2024–2025): Assistant coach, twice served as interim head coach, helping the club qualify for continental competitions.
  • Shabana FC: Previous coaching stint before moving to South Sudan.
  • Kibera Black Stars (2016–2019): Led the club from provincial leagues to the National Super League.
  • Nzoia Sugar FC: Served as head coach in two separate terms.
  • KCB FC: Four seasons as assistant coach.

At the national level, Oduor has worked extensively with Kenya’s youth and women’s teams:

  • Assistant coach and interim head coach of the Harambee Starlets.
  • Assistant coach of the Kenya U-20 national team.

He has also honed his skills under renowned coaches such as Andre Casa Mbungo of AFC Leopards and Ethiopian tactician Wubetu Abate, experiences that have influenced his tactical approach and leadership style.

Expectations at Nairobi United

At Nairobi United, Oduor faces high expectations. The club has tasked him with:

  • Guiding the team to at least the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
  • Securing a top-three finish in the Kenyan Premier League.
  • Defending the FKF Cup to ensure continental football next season.

His first major challenge comes this Sunday, January 25, when Nairobi United hosts Tanzanian giants Azam FC in a crucial CAF Confederation Cup group stage match at Nyayo National Stadium. For Oduor, it is a baptism of fire. For the Naibois, it marks the beginning of a new chapter, one driven by ambition, experience, and belief in their coach’s vision.
