President William Ruto has kicked off a four-day development tour across Kisii County and Nyamira County, unveiling an ambitious lineup of infrastructure, education, and economic projects aimed at boosting growth in the region. The President began his visit by presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion and modernization of Kisii Stadium. He later joined residents in watching a football match featuring Shabana FC, where he also handed over a team bus in support of local sports development.
During his stay, President Ruto is scheduled to hold high-level consultations at the Kisii State Lodge. The meetings will bring together governors, Members of Parliament, MCAs, religious leaders, opinion shapers, and representatives from the boda boda sector to discuss regional priorities and development strategies.
Key Infrastructure and Development Projects
A major highlight of the tour is the planned groundbreaking of the long-awaited Suneka Airstrip, expected to enhance connectivity and spur economic activity. The President will also:
- Inspect the Kisii Cancer Centre
- Launch construction of a tuition block at Nyamira University
Road Development Initiatives
Several road projects are set to be launched or inspected, including:
- Bobaracho–Manyasi–Tinga (Kitutu Chache North)
- Keumbu–Ibeno (Nyaribari Chache)
- Sameta–Egetuki (Bomachoge)
Additional roads in South Mugirango—Mochengo–Ayora–Maroo, Etago–Ekona–Geteri–Nyamaiya, and Nyamarambe–Esaka–Nyabigena—will also see construction works initiated.
Markets and Economic Empowerment
To support small-scale traders and local economies, President Ruto will:
- Lay the foundation stone for Ikonge Modern Market
- Commission Kegogi Market
- Inspect works at Nyakoe Market
Further projects include the construction of Mogongo Modern Market and ongoing works at Masi Market.
Boost for Education Sector
In education, the President will oversee the establishment of several institutions, including:
- Nyamira KMTC
- Nyamira Comprehensive School
- Keroka Technical Training Institute
- Nyangweta KMTC
He will also launch student hostel projects at:
- Nyamache KMTC
- Kisii University
- Kisii Polytechnic
Water, Electricity, and Housing Projects
The development tour also includes key public service projects such as:
- Last-mile connectivity for the Nyamira Water Supply Project
- Expansion of the Kisii Water Supply Project
- Electricity connectivity in Ibeno (Nyaribari Chache)
In South Mugirango, President Ruto will:
- Break ground for the Omingo Bridge
- Lay the foundation stone for the Nyachenge Affordable Housing Project
President Ruto’s extensive tour underscores the government’s focus on accelerating development in the Gusii region through infrastructure expansion, education investment, and economic empowerment initiatives.
