The National Steering Committee overseeing preparations for the first anniversary of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has announced a three-day programme scheduled to run from October 13 to October 15, 2026. The commemorative events will honour the life, legacy and political contributions of Raila, who remained one of Kenya’s most influential political figures for decades. According to the committee, the activities will culminate in a main anniversary ceremony on Thursday, October 15, in Bondo, Siaya County, Raila’s ancestral home.
The three-day programme is expected to bring together political leaders, family members, supporters and Kenyans who wish to remember the former Prime Minister and reflect on his contribution to the country’s political and democratic journey. Raila, popularly known as Baba, played a significant role in Kenya’s multiparty democracy, constitutional reforms and the push for political accountability. Throughout his career, he commanded a substantial following across the country and remained a central figure in national political discussions.
The anniversary provides an opportunity for his supporters and fellow leaders to celebrate his legacy while reflecting on the issues he championed during his years in public service. Bondo, which holds deep personal and political significance for the Odinga family, will serve as the focal point of the main commemorative ceremony.
The three-day programme is expected to draw attention to Raila’s enduring influence on Kenyan politics and the continued relevance of his contribution to the country’s democratic development. As preparations get underway, the anniversary events will offer an opportunity for Kenyans to reflect on the life of a leader whose political journey shaped several defining moments in the country’s history.
