Motorists using Waiyaki Way in Nairobi should expect traffic disruptions after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a temporary partial closure of a key section of the road. In a notice issued by KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli, the authority confirmed that the affected stretch is along the Nakuru-bound carriageway between Karuna Close and the Westlands Roundabout.
The partial closure will begin on Thursday, June 25, 2026, and is expected to last until Friday, September 25, 2026. According to KeNHA, the move is aimed at facilitating ongoing construction works, including the extension of an existing pedestrian footbridge near Dunhill Towers and the building of a new footbridge linking Fogo Gaucho to QuickMart Westlands.
During the construction period, traffic will be redirected through the existing service lane as outlined in the traffic management plan. Motorists have been urged to remain cautious when approaching the affected section, observe all temporary road signs, and follow traffic control instructions that will be put in place to ensure safety and smooth flow.
The authority warned that the closure could significantly impact traffic along Waiyaki Way, one of Nairobi’s busiest highways, especially during peak hours. Road users are therefore encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays. The project is part of efforts to improve pedestrian safety and enhance infrastructure within the busy Westlands area.
