
A woman died on the spot after a private vehicle left the road and hit her while she was walking along the pedestrian lane in Lwala, Uriri Sub-county. A pedestrian has lost her life following a road accident at Lwala along the Awendo–Migori Highway in Uriri Sub-county, Migori County. According to Uriri Sub-county Police Commander Ali Bashir, the incident occurred after the driver of a private vehicle allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road before striking the victim, who was walking on the designated pedestrian lane.
The deceased was identified as Nancy Wangoi. She sustained severe injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was later moved to a local mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and other legal procedures. Police said the driver did not flee the scene and instead reported the accident at Awendo Police Station shortly after the crash.
Authorities have launched investigations to determine the circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Commander Bashir urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to reduce road accidents. He also warned that police will take stern legal action against anyone found violating traffic laws. The incident adds to the growing number of fatal road accidents reported on Kenyan highways, highlighting the need for greater vigilance among all road users.
