Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has indicated his readiness to work alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the next general election, saying the opposition’s main priority is unseating President William Ruto. Speaking during a televised interview on Monday, Kalonzo said he is willing to take up a deputy role if it serves the broader opposition agenda. However, he noted that Kenya’s political dynamics, including regional and demographic considerations, will play a key role in determining the final lineup. He emphasized that leadership decisions should reflect inclusivity, ensuring all communities feel represented in the coalition.
Kalonzo stressed that unity within the opposition will be critical to securing victory in the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that a united front could achieve a decisive win, likening it to the 2002 elections that saw a landslide outcome. According to him, the opposition is aware of attempts to divide them and remains committed to staying together for a common cause.
The Wiper leader described the opposition alliance as a “government in waiting,” revealing that they have already developed a people-centered budget and are working on a 13-point agenda aimed at addressing national challenges.
Kalonzo also questioned the credibility of some opinion polls, alleging that certain research firms may be compromised to favor the current administration. He urged Kenyans to remain vigilant against manipulation. Additionally, he raised concerns about an alleged special police unit, claiming it is being used to intimidate political opponents. He called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate and disband the unit if necessary.
He concluded by urging the government to uphold democratic freedoms, particularly the right of citizens to express their views without fear. Kalonzo’s remarks underscore ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to consolidate support and present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections, amid rising political tensions.
