Gor Mahia patron Eliud Owalo has called on the club’s massive supporter base to formally register as members, setting an ambitious target of one million members to strengthen the club’s financial independence. Owalo believes Gor Mahia can turn its large following into a reliable source of revenue if supporters take a more active role in financing the club rather than relying mainly on sponsorships.
Owalo Urges Fans to Register
The Gor Mahia patron said achieving one million registered members would give the club a stronger financial foundation and reduce its dependence on corporate sponsors. He urged supporters to embrace membership and work collectively to build a sustainable financial model for the club. Owalo also called for a shift from what he described as a welfare-based approach to a more corporate mindset, where supporters actively contribute to the club’s growth.
Club Seeks New Revenue Streams
Gor Mahia has continued to attract corporate partnerships as it seeks to diversify its sources of income. The club recently secured a three-year sponsorship deal worth KSh30 million with Kansai Plascon, while its partnership with electric mobility company Spiro is valued at KSh7.5 million annually. A membership base of one million supporters could provide the club with more predictable income through membership fees, merchandise and other supporter-led initiatives. The proposal is part of broader efforts to transform Gor Mahia’s huge fan base into an organised financial network capable of supporting the club’s long-term ambitions.
Gor Mahia Eyes Continued Success
The initiative comes as Gor Mahia looks to build on its success after securing its 22nd Kenyan league title. The record Kenyan champions are also preparing for another demanding season, which will include participation in continental competitions. If successfully implemented, the membership drive could provide Gor Mahia with an additional financial foundation while giving its supporters a greater role in shaping the club’s future.
