President William Ruto is presiding over the passing-out parade of newly trained General Service Unit (GSU) recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘B’ Campus in Nairobi. The ceremony marks the completion of an intensive training programme for the recruits, who are now set to join the National Police Service and undertake assignments in different parts of the country. The passing-out parade brings together senior government and security officials as the recruits formally transition from training into active police service.
The recruits recently completed their training at the GSU Magadi Field Campus in Kajiado County. The programme equipped them with physical fitness, tactical skills and specialised training designed to prepare them for the demands of police work. The training at Magadi was part of the recruits’ preparation to operate in different environments and respond to various security situations that may arise during their deployment.
Ruto Opens SHA Block at GSU Health Centre
Before presiding over the recruits’ passing-out ceremony, President Ruto opened the Social Health Authority (SHA) Block at the GSU Embakasi Health Centre in Nairobi. The facility is part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and infrastructure for members of the security services and the wider community served by the health centre. Ruto’s programme in Embakasi therefore included both the commissioning of the health facility and the graduation ceremony for the newly trained GSU officers.
Lagat Urges Recruits to Remain Ready
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat had earlier challenged the recruits to remain prepared to serve wherever they are deployed. Speaking during the closure of the training programme at the GSU Magadi Field Campus, Lagat told the recruits that their duties could require them to work in different parts of the country and under varying circumstances. He urged them to remain disciplined and committed to their responsibilities as they begin their careers within the National Police Service.
The GSU is a specialised unit of the National Police Service that is deployed to undertake various security and public-order responsibilities. The recruits’ graduation comes as the National Police Service continues to strengthen its personnel capacity through training and deployment across the country.
New GSU Officers Begin National Service
Following the passing-out ceremony, the newly trained recruits are expected to take up their respective assignments based on the deployment arrangements of the National Police Service. Their training at the Magadi Field Campus and subsequent graduation at the National Police College mark the completion of the initial phase of their preparation for service. The officers will now be expected to apply the skills and knowledge gained during training while carrying out their duties in accordance with the law and the requirements of the National Police Service.
